HOSPICE

Tree of Light

During this holiday season, the UNC Health Johnston Hospice Team invites you to participate in our annual Tree of Light campaign. This special tradition offers families touched by hospice the opportunity to honor their loved ones while supporting the Johnston Health Foundation’s Hospice Fund.

The Tree of Light, a 15 ft. tree decorated with love by hospice volunteers, is the centerpiece of the UNC Health Johnston Festival of Trees, a festive holiday showcase in the Johnston Medical Mall, and is a testament of the community's commitment to caring for the citizens of Johnston County throughout their life journey.

Tree of Light Ornament

Tribute Gift

For each donation, we will display an ornament, like the one pictured, on the Tree of Light, featuring the tribute's and donor's names. Your generosity will shine brightly throughout the season.

Donors will receive an invitation to the Tree of Light Ceremony. In addition to a ceremony invitation, tributes' families will receive notification of your generous gift.

Did you know that 15 percent of patients admitted to the SECU Hospice House last year received charity care assistance provided by the Hospice Fund? Approximately 80 percent of those nearing the end of life depend on Medicare. While this program offers valuable support in various medical situations, it doesn't cover hospice room and board ($95/day). Additionally, some individuals may not qualify for Medicaid or Medicare or lack insurance coverage. As a result, many patients are left without access to essential end-of-life services, affecting their well-being and quality of life in their final days.

In addition, the fund covers the personal needs of patients and their families, helps to enhance the environment of the hospice house, and provides support for bereavement programs like Camp Courage, a day-long summer camp with structured, meaningful activities to help children cope with the loss of a loved one.

Donations for ornament placement at the Tree of Light Ceremony must be received by Monday, Dec. 2.
